An 18-month engagement designing the complete digital ecosystem for Wisconsin's statewide prosecutor platform — from brand identity to mission-critical legal tooling used across all 72 counties.
PROTECT (Prosecutor Technology for Case Tracking) is the primary case management system used by District Attorneys across Wisconsin. Over 18 months, I led the UI/UX design for five interconnected projects — each solving a distinct problem while contributing to one cohesive, standards-compliant system.
Established the brand foundation for all five products. Designed the PROTECT logo incorporating the Wisconsin state silhouette, scales of justice, and the PRO/TECT typographic split. Delivered SVG, PNG, ICO, and PDF exports for web, desktop, and print use.
Diagnosed and fixed a critical usability problem in the PROTECT desktop application — users had to navigate multiple tabs to view synced case data. Redesigned the Details Pane to surface key information inline, collapsible and context-aware, reducing lookup time significantly.
Designed a web-based tool enabling DA staff to search case and person details across all Wisconsin counties. The system pulls fresh data nightly from all PROTECT databases. Focused on fast lookups, clear data presentation, and cross-county accessibility for non-technical users.
Redesigned the legacy XCQ web application — originally built in 2005 — from scratch using a structured, user-centered design process. Created a design system, stakeholder-aligned wireframes, high-fidelity prototypes, and a new data grid component optimized for legal search workflows.
Ongoing improvements to the core PROTECT Windows desktop application used daily by all 72 Wisconsin District Attorney offices. Focused on workflow optimization, visual consistency with the new design system, and performance-conscious UI patterns within Windows-based constraints.
